I am a general thoracic surgeon working at the Free University Hospital in Amsterdam. Married to Ineke Paul, who works part-time as doctor in pediatric preventive medicine. We have 2 sons and 2 daughters, all teachers; the oldest three are married and we have 2 granddaughters and a grandson.
After our medical education at the University in Rotterdam Ineke and I worked for 3 years as missionary doctors in Nigeria, at first in a primary health care setting, the last year in a small hospital.
Ineke and I have always been members of the Christian Medical Fellowship in the Netherlands and as a student I have also been involved in the ICMDA student work.
In the last four years I have been part of the national organizing committee for the 15th ICMDA world congress which took place in Rotterdam July 2014. Last year I became the regional secretary for the Eurasia region.
