Support Jamaican Doctors in the Aftermath of Hurricane Melissa

Hurricane Melissa has left western Jamaica in ruins. Hospitals are destroyed, communication is down, and doctors are working around the clock, often without rest or basic resources. Many have also lost their homes and possessions.

ICMDA is partnering with the Jamaica Medical Doctors’ Association (JMDA), led by Dr Renee Badroe, to provide urgent support to these frontline healthcare professionals. Your gift can supply essential relief, help doctors rest and recover, and ensure they can continue caring for patients in desperate need.

Give today and stand with the doctors who are standing for their communities. Every contribution counts, and your support will be distributed responsibly and transparently through JMDA.

Jamaica

Hurricane Melissa has devastated western Jamaica. Three hospitals in the west were destroyed or severely damaged. Communication networks are down, roads are blocked, and many communities lack power and clean water.

Doctors in these areas have been working nonstop, some for 72 hours straight, caring for critically ill patients while their own homes were affected or destroyed. Dr Renee is in charge of over 1000 doctors, and 60 are in real need right now - one doctor was airlifted out, as their house came down on them. Yet they have to keep looking after patients and are in urgent need of support.

When the healthcare workforce falters, entire communities suffer. Doctors are operating under extreme stress, without sufficient rest, relief, or supplies. While aid has been promised, some frontline doctors and Christian healthcare workers may not receive the support they urgently need.

Our Goal

ICMDA, in partnership with JMDA and Dr Renee Badroe, aims to provide emergency support to doctors and hospitals in Jamaica.
Our initial target is £75,000 ($100,000) to deliver:

  • Emergency relief kits for doctors who have lost homes and supplies
  • Support for hospitals caring for displaced patients, including medical equipment and temporary infrastructure
  • Pastoral and mental-health care for Christian doctors and health staff
  • Rebuilding and resilience planning for western hospitals

Your donation will go directly to ICMDA and be forwarded to JMDA under Dr Badroe’s oversight, ensuring transparency and impact.

This is more than an emergency appeal. Supporting doctors in Jamaica strengthens Christian healthcare leadership, helps communities recover, and builds long-term resilience.
