Saline Process

Every Christian health professional has a unique opportunity to improve their patients’ physical and spiritual health but many feel frustrated by the challenge of integrating faith and practice within time constraints and legal obligations.

The Saline Process is an 8-10 hour course designed to help Christian health professionals become more comfortable practising in a way that addresses the needs of the whole person. There is a mixture of teaching and small group discussion and the focus is on learning practical skills.

The course recognises that the transformation of a sceptic to a believer is a journey and focuses on guiding principles and tools, not a methodology. Our aim is that our conversation is ‘seasoned with salt’ (hence ‘saline’) and that all interactions with patients are carried out in an atmosphere of permission, sensitivity and respect.

During the course trainees will learn to:

  • Cover their patients and colleagues with personal and team prayer.
  • Take spiritual histories along with medical histories.
  • Discern an individual’s barriers to faith in Jesus.
  • Plant faith flags that can lead to conversation about Jesus.
  • Tell personal faith stories that connect with the patient’s circumstance.
  • Pray with patients and their families.
  • Give truth prescriptions: words of Scripture to comfort and speak truth.
  • Give a patient the opportunity to trust in Jesus.
  • Build a spiritual referral team and refer patients to the team and local churches.

All courses are taught by ICMDA certified trainers and trainees can opt later to become trainers themselves.

Saline courses are taught either in person or on zoom in a variety of formats. Watch this space for the next available training opportunity and click here for an overview of the course.
