#33 Medical Education post COVID

With Dr Anna Pulimood

Hear the inspiring history of Ida Scudder and CMC Vellore, see what they are doing now, and how they hope to continue serving the Lord through education into the future.

120 years ago a young woman arrived in India because of a bold and courageous decision to dedicate her life to improving the condition of the women of South India.

In 1918, the world was struck by the deadliest pandemic it had ever known: caused by the H1N1 influenza A virus. Lasting from February 1918 to April 1920, it infected 500 million people – about a third of the world's population at the time – in four successive waves.

Many of the hospital staff fell sick, with many fatalities. It was in this atmosphere of uncertainty and tension that the child of Ida’s fondest dreams was born: The new Union Missionary Medical School for women.

She chose a motto for the school about service and sacrifice – not to be served, but to serve. She said we were building the Kingdom of God.
