In this ICMDA webinar, Chris will share a series of stories with humour and sensitivity, about surgery, mainly in Africa, where there is massive disparity in resources compared with his home in the UK.
His story is encouraging, describing the great improvements in surgery over the last 20 years, but also realistic, showing that there is still much to be done.

Prof Chris Lavy
Chris Lavy is professor of orthopaedics and tropical surgery at the University of Oxford, a spine surgeon at Oxford University Hospitals and an elected Council member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. His consultant career has been dedicated to providing orthopaedic services and training in sub-Saharan Africa, building childrens’ orthopaedic hospitals in Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe, and helping set up COSECSA (The College of Surgeons of East Central and Southern Africa). He was awarded an OBE by the queen for services to orthopaedics.
