Supporting Christian Medical Ministry in Syria
The recent political upheaval in Syria has exacerbated the suffering of millions, leaving a nation already plagued by conflict, instability, and poverty in even greater need of hope and healing. The Christian Missionary Alliance (CMA) churches in Syria and Lebanon, led by Dr/Rev Edward Awabdeh, are uniquely positioned to provide both physical and spiritual care in this crisis.
Dr Awabdeh, a senior dentist, ordained minister, and Field Partner Director for HOME, serves as the Senior Pastor of Jesus Light of the World Church in Damascus and directs the Jesus Light of the World Polyclinic and Medical Centre in Tabaleh, Damascus. This ambulatory medical centre is the largest evangelical medical facility in Syria, providing compassionate, Christ-centred care to all, regardless of faith or background.
The Need
As Syria faces compounding crises, the work of the Jesus Light of the World Church and Medical Centre is critical. However, the challenges of operating in this context have multiplied due to the political instability, economic strain, and humanitarian needs of the community. To sustain and expand this vital ministry, they need funds to support:
- Medical Care: Providing critical medical supplies, medications, and equipment to sustain operations at the Jesus Light of the World Polyclinic and at a second centre in Aleppo.
- Support for Ministry Staff: Assisting the dedicated Christian medical and pastoral teams who tirelessly serve patients and congregants alike.
- Community Outreach: Expanding medical and dental services to underserved populations, accompanied by spiritual care and counselling.
- Infrastructure Support: Maintaining and enhancing the polyclinic to ensure it continues to meet the growing needs of the community.
Why ICMDA?
ICMDA is uniquely positioned to rally global Christian medical and dental professionals to support this ministry. Dr Awabdeh embodies the model of Christ-centred care, seamlessly integrating his roles as a senior dentist and pastor. His leadership exemplifies how the healing arts can be a powerful extension of the Gospel.
Call to Action
We invite ICMDA members and partners to stand with Dr Edward Awabdeh and the CMA churches in Syria by supporting this mission. Contributions will enable the Jesus Light of the World Medical Centre to remain a beacon of hope in Damascus, shining Christ’s love into the hearts of those suffering in darkness.
By investing in this ministry, we are not merely meeting physical needs but also fulfilling the Great Commission by advancing Christ-centred healthcare and sharing His light in a land yearning for peace and restoration.
Can you help?
The challenges in Syria are immense, but the opportunities for the Gospel are unparalleled. Together, we can ensure that this vital ministry continues to reflect Christ’s healing power, both physically and spiritually.
With your help, ICMDA would like to raise £20,000 ($25,000) from Christian doctors and dentists to help alleviate this situation. Please prayerfully consider how you might contribute to this urgent need and be part of God’s redemptive work in Syria.
