Howard Lyons

Europe board member (treasurer)

Howard is the UK representative on the ICMDA Board and is also a member of the Board of Christian Medical Fellowship in the UK. He was Chair of the Medical Missionary Association from 1996 until it merged with CMF in 2004.

His initial post-graduate training was in Healthcare Management at Manchester Business School. He worked in the British National Health Service for ten years until 1982 where his last job was as House Governor/CEO of what is now the Chelsea & Westminster Teaching Hospital in London.

Since then he has worked mainly overseas in various management and advisory roles with governments, private companies and agencies such as the World Bank and UN in the Middle East, Africa, the Far East and Latin America.

He was appointed the first Managing Director of Healthcare UK in 2012, a joint initiative by the NHS, Department of Health and the Department of International Trade to help British organisations to develop work in emerging markets. He was made Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the Queen’s 90th Birthday Honours for services to healthcare management.

He retired in 2016 and is currently chair of UK Global Healthcare Ltd and the Indo Institute of Health which is involved in developing medicities across India.
